Wills
Jersey Residents
Many people simply assume that if they don’t have a Will their partner will inherit everything. Other people think that the only need to have a Will is if you are very wealthy. Neither of these statements are true.
Having a Will first and foremost gives peace of mind. By having a lawyer prepare a Will for you you will know what you are legally entitled to do with your property and you will be assured that your possessions will be disposed of according to your wishes. This is especially useful to people with partners or children who want to know that they will be secure after your death.
Blakeley Legal offers a very efficient Will drafting facility in which we explain how the law operates, take your instructions on how you would like to leave your property, advise you on issues about appointing an Executor for your estate and then prepare all the documentation for you.
We recommend that even if you only have a small amount of property that you take legal advice and prepare a Will. It is inexpensive but provides great peace of mind

Probate
Non Jersey Domiciled
A Jersey Grant of Probate must be obtained if a non Jersey domiciled person dies leaving movable assets in Jersey which exceed £10,000.
Fast Track applications are available in cases in which the deceased died domiciled in England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man or Guernsey. The procedure results in a Greffier's Certificate being produced by the Court which allows you to obtain and deal with the Jersey assets directly, as opposed to a Jersey Advocate acting on your behalf.
In cases where a Fast Track application in not available, a Jersey Advocate must attend Jersey Probate to obtain the requisite Grant. This is done by way of a Power of Attorney drafted by us, appointing one of our Jersey Advocates to act on your behalf.
Please contact one of our team to discuss what information and documents are required in specific circumstances.
